I became interested by the variety of flowers in the world. For the last ten years I have chosen to live on two sides of the world, Hawaii and the Netherlands. In Hawaii, you have the tropical flowers and, in the Netherlands, there is an amazing amount of various species cultivated.

There is a Hawaiian proverb that inspired this series:
Ka ‘opu’u pua I mohala
(A Flower that began to unfold)

All these pieces are mixed media combining oil and acrylics paints. Often sand, ash and dirt is mixed with the paints. Some of these pieces include metal leaf and carved wood panels.
